Abode’s home automation platform allows you to connect other smart home systems to your security solution and control everything from one app. The company’s best deal is the annual Pro Plan which costs $219.99/year or $21.99/month.

About Abode

Abode is a relatively new name in the home security market but already enjoys a good reputation for its high-tech surveillance solutions that require no contract. The company was founded in 2014 by a former ADT executive. Abode offers a wide range of security solutions and a user-friendly app that allows you to monitor your home 24/7 and integrates with other smart home applications and tools such as Apple HomeKit and Alexa. Users can choose between self-monitoring and pro-monitoring. The company offers two subscription plans.

Top Features

Abode’s security systems are easy to install and require no tools, wiring, or prior expertise. The systems connect to the ethernet. Since internet connection can sometimes face interruptions, Abode also offers cellular backup. You can only enjoy this feature if you subscribe to the Pro plan. Abode systems can connect with up to 160 devices such as security devices, voice assistants, or lightbulbs. Among the integrations Abode offers, you can find Apple HomeKit, Google Assistant, Amazon Alexa, Lifx, Zigbee, Z-wave, ZigBee, Ecobee, First Alert, Fibaro, Yale, and plenty more. The Abode security kits also feature a built-in 93 dB siren.

The Abode app

You can select from this app if you want to monitor the Abode system yourself or get pro monitoring. If you choose to self monitor, you can do this via the app as you’ll get instant notifications if something happens while you’re away from home and the cameras and sensors detect perils. You can view your camera feed in real time and arm/disarm the system with a single touch. The app allows you to customize your notifications and get alerts only for specific events.

If you pay 20 cents extra per day to get the Standard Plan, you’ll also have access to additional features such as a recorded timeline of events, the ability to store the recorded videos, and more importantly, the possibility to set up automations, which don’t work unless you’re on a paid plan.

Overall Opinion

Abode offers reliable, no-frills home security solutions that are easy to install with no prior experience. Those who want extra features and accessories can use add-on options. The support service is also reliable. The only problem is that the multitude of information on the website can make it difficult to understand and choose the right package.
